22 minutes to University Parkway

Most mysterious magical Monday. I think it's time for a story.

It all starts today when I came home from school. ok so basically I get home and my roommate is like "yo if we don't get this sorted out our power is getting shut off tomorrow"
what what what??? I know. Here's the deal: the utilities were in the name of someone who used to live in my apartment who moved out a few months back and on friday she contacted my roommate who lived here before the rest of us moved in and was like "lol I took my name off the utilities and on tuesday they're going to shut off your power kthxbye" like it weren't no thing. and basically since it was after the people were closed we couldn't do anything about it until today. so thanks dbag former roommate. way to give us tons of notice.

I drive up to Indy's because we were going to go boarding and I see that somehow this utilities thing is now solely my responsibility to solve and I'm not sure why but I'm like "I'll deal with it after snowboarding" and do just that. I call and get everything setup and I think to myself "yes this was easier than I ever could have imagined" until NNNNNNNNNNNOPE. the lady is like "since you've never had utilities in provo in your name you have to come down to our office and show us your drivers licence and your birth certificate"
ok so basically.... I didn't even have my birth certificate because my parents have it and I'm like "uhhhhhhh good thing I'm already mostly in salt lake!!" also good thing this somehow became my problem because all my roommates are from the east coast/Taiwan so they didn't have birth certificates with them at all whereas mine was only 42 miles north. So I'm like ok no problem kind of annoying but whatever.

"oh also we close at 6 tonight and if you don't come in tonight we're shutting off your power" the lady tells me. at 4:30 PM.
I'm driving down the canyon with Indy and basically we are freaking out. well mostly me. I arrange to meet with my mom to get my B Cert and I drive to where I think we are going to meet and she isn't there and I call her and she's like "no not at the old K Mart, at shopko"
Basically full on panic attack at this point because how am I going to get to this place from this other place and to provo in less than an hour?!?!?!?!?!? Somehow Parley's Way took me right where I needed to be and found my mom. She was like "YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT!!" and I'm like "THANKS FOR THAT VOTE OF CONFIDENCE MOM JEEZ" but in the end, what matters is I got that birth C and got OUT OF THERE!! There was a close call where I nearly missed the exit from I-80 to I-15 but somehow I made it. ONLY TO BE MET WITH RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC
So tense. Finally traffic started to get better and I see this sign that tells me 22 minutes to University Parkway which is where I usually get off and I'm like "I CAN MAKE IT! no I can't YES I CAN!!! no I definitely can't" because at the point I drive past it it's 5:34 on my car clock (there's probably a better name for it than that) and 34 + 22 = 5:56 to get to the exit before the exit I needed to get to to get to the place (please feel free to read that sentence as many times as you need to make sense of it because it's really a mess, just like me). which is at least 5 miles before the exit I need.
it's at this point that two things happened. 1) traffic cleared up a lot (I guess all that construction in Utah County was worth it after all. Thanks 8 lanes of traffic) 2) I wavered more violently between "I CAN MAKE IT!!!" and "I'm never going to make it and I'm the worst human being on the planet and we're not going to have power and it's all my fault!!!!!!!!!" one can only assume that a similar thing will happen to me when I apply for the animation program come June.

Well anyway, I get to the exit I need and it's like 5:56 and I somehow managed to make amazing time while also not going time travel speeds but the Center Street exit in provo is WEIRD. like straightup. Indy and I ran into problems with it before when we were trying to go see Richard III. Anyway I survived the weird intersections and am only a few blocks west of where the place is and I'm like "I'M GONNA MAKE IT I'M GONNA MAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
then I hit a red light
BUT THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN
then I almost miss the building
BUT I DON'T AND I PARK RIGHT OUTSIDE IT
but the first door I try is locked
BUT THE SECOND ONE ISN'T AND THEY WERE STILL OPEN AND IT'S LITERALLY LIKE 6:02 BUT I MADE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then I went home and celebrated by eating sour patch kids. All in all a very emotive journey.
