Me around guys I don't like (most guys) (sorry guys), A gifset

(Here's another thing I never posted and I don't know why bc it really encapsulates so much so please enjoy goodbye -2020 Shan)

I have been waiting so long to post this. I pre-emptively made this because I KNEW EVENTUALLY THE PROVODATE WOULD COME AND BOY DID PROVO NOT DISAPPOINT.

It's time to post a blog

Hi I never posted this! Probably wanted to add some gifs or something and then forgot about it. This post was originally written the winter semester of 2017 and I'm just going to share it as is while I work on finishing off this blog once and for all. Enjoy!

Hello friends I am here. What is new in the life of shan????????? Well I mean the entire last semester RIP. yeah my life is good and also I'm going to jerusalem over the summer, but here is a MAGIC TALE FROM MY LIFE ARE YOU READY?????

ok so I was sTRUGGLING ALONG getting my drawing for animation homework done (and honestly it did not even be that good [wowwwwww what is english]) but to reward myself I went to the vending machine after. well at the bottom of one of the refrigerated. YYOUKN OWY WHAT THIS WILL BECOME A BLOG POST. ok on the bottom of one of the refrigerated vending machines they sell apples for IDK how much because I'm an unhealthy person and never buy apples (ever or really any fruit or healthy food period) out of the vending machine. Anyway this machine somehow got a little... messed up. The apple was somehow placed precariously hanging over the edge of the vending machine (like if it didn't have a built in protector thing, you could totally reach your hand up and grab it without even bending your wrist) I might need to provide an illustration for this post on the blog btwwwww. and I'm like "well that's messed up lol" and didn't really think much of it. I ended up deciding to buy a chocolate muffin which was like three rows up, exactly over the messed up apples, but again, still not thinking much of this situation. AS THE MUFFIN IS DISPENSING it occurs to me "oh, the muffin is probably going to hit the apple isn't it" and SURE ENOUGH.
So this is already a great A+ experience in my life, but it is only IMPROVED UPON BY LEARNING THE OTHER HALF OF THE TALE. I go up to class eating my free apple  and am like living the life and begin to tell the story to some of my friends who are hanging out before class starts. Well my friend Michael comes up and I'm like "MICHAEL LOOK AT WHAT I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH IT IS THIS APPLE" and he knows EXACTLY what apple I'm talking about because about an hour prior to my receiving this bountiful vending machine harvest Michael also went to the vending machine, BUT WITH THE INTENT TO PURCHASE AN APPLE. he saw that the machine was messed up and thought if he bought an apple he would get two which he didn't want and so he tried to buy a blueberry muffin(next to the chocolate muffin) wITH THE THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD HIT THE APPLE ON THE WAY DOWN but guess what. nope. and then when he got his muffin it was all squished up. there's some moral in here about intent to commit vending machine fraud but I'm not here to get into the lingo. Until next time (probably like 2 years from now)!

the green scare of 2017

the day my life temporarily became this vine (sidebar RIP in peace Vine always in our thoughts)

Yes hello friends it's that time again, for Shannon to tell a tale of woe, desperado and wild romance.

BUT FIRST! let me update in general on my life. Successfully did the Jerusalem thing which was great great great and now I'm back. Here are some Provo moods courtesy of Snapchat and starring ya girl and her friends
I just noticed the faded mickey mouse looking sassy on his shirt and now I'm picturing him saying the hat instead of Britney

this was not in provo but it's still mood

all day every day in that lab straight grinding out that BFA diploma with the sculpted head of Kelly as moral support obvi

fun times with the Jeru pals

I bought the giant pack and immediately regretted it but now that it has proved its usefulness I feel that way no longer
also I forgot to even blog about the Lyme Scare of 2017 (there are a LOT of scares in the last three weeks, no wonder I'm so anxious and stressed all the time) but here's a pic from that:
I got a spider bite that faded to this bullseye thing and called my mom about it and she was like "ITS LYME DISEASE GO TO THE ER RIGHT!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and I went and they were like "it..'s not lyme disease" and the next day the bite was completely gone ðŸ™ƒ

Also Indy, Haley and I did the dirty dash and dressed up as the trams from snowbird!! Our team name was Dick Bass Powder Patrol and it was a blast but I also was so cold my body shivered so hard.

OK NOW IT'S TIME FOR MY TALE

Provo Pilgrimage

this is the state I'm in trying to unpack from provo and get ready to go to Jerusalem on Tuesday. THIS IS FINE. Also you might note the existence of TWO cell phones on my desk. That's because I'm taking my mom's old old oldo lodldoldodo ancient"purple pink monstrosity (which I have named Goblin Village) with me to the holy land instead of my boy Johann III. Also I'm taking my super old little baby iPod from high school. and my old point and shoot camera. WE ARE GOING TO BE SO OLD SCHOOL IN THE OLD CITY.

Anyway read all about my exploits in Jerusalem at this new blog I made for the event: We Out Here

If you are curious about my travel plans let me tell you all about them!
first tomorrow I have a Very Important Meeting in provo about all the orientation.
On Tuesday I leave SLC and go to Detroit and then from there to Paris (which I am weirdly excited about??? even though I'll only be in the airport, but apparently there is an amazing Macaroon place that I have check out). Then I will fly from Paris to Tel Aviv. exciting!! That's a lot of time in the air too. hopefully I keep entertained and my many many devices don't die :/

ok well I'm just putting off more important things so we out

21.4.17

ok look I'm only going to say one thing about this

important announcement about the lifespan of this blog

oh... I forgot to post on here. heh. well I have some big news.

THIS BLOG GETS TO EXIST FOR AT LEAST THREE MORE YEARS!!!!!!!!!1

yes children that is because I got into the animation program! I can FINALLY GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE! (in three years). hooray finally in a major!!! It only took..... four years. SUPREME SENIOR STATUS NO REGRETS. actually this is what I'm thinking the system is like:

Freshman
Sophomore
Junior
Senior (where I'm at rn)
Super Senior
Superlative Senior
SUPREME SENIOR (hopefully when I graduate because after that all that's left is:)
Blood Pact Senior
Weird Senior
Dreadnaught Senior (probably a grad student maybe?)
Dark Senior
Fear Senior
Eternal Senior (aka PHD student or medical student in their final year of residency)

so yeah just shy of a decade to get my undergrad of course no problem that would happen. It's fine. It's fine. OK LOOK AT THIS:

below the cut for ridiculously dysfunctional learning about how I got in:

ÉG ER BÚIN

yes kids that's right, today (....I'm writing this april 2nd but... it's like 1:30am so it still feels like april 1 ok) I submitted my application to the animation program once more and for the final time, scary!! Here is a snap story of my adventures:

WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

also can I just share my super weird fear??? so. when I applied the last time we took our sketchbooks to the DVA main office where like... people were kind of looking over them/making sure they werent stolen. Well I have this terrible paranoia that someone is going to go through the giant stack of sketchbooks and decide to STEAL MINE TO SABOTAGE ME. ok I know that that is super unlikely. Like my brain zone is like "that's not going to happen" but my ANXIETY ZONE is freaking out. I waited as close to the due date as a I could honestly to prevent anyone the opportunity at least.

but I guess all day today there were what some of my friends are calling sketchbook mercenaries ie other students hanging aroudn the box outisde kelly's office so they can go through ppl's sketchbooks and like.... see what they... had in there I guess. There were a couple ppl chillin when I got there to drop mine off so I mean... this seems like a very real thing that was happening. ugh ugh ugh I'm sure it'll be fine bah.

edito: also it's interesting to look at what I posted last time and to see how I felt about it. I will say I feel a lot calmer about the whole thing (other than the weird anxiety/paranoia about sketchbook misplacement. OK BUT THAT IS JUSTIFIED I met a girl one time who applied for the 'gram last year and her sketchbook just was like... lost I guess so I mean. it happens.) I would say less like aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and even less like "yay I'm free now" and more like... how I felt when I got off my misison. Like, I definitely just feel like "now what?" like........ all Ivé been doing for the last month and semester and school year has been working toward this program and now it's out of my hands so... what do I do with my time now?

I'm thinking maybe starting a comic actually

DOUBLE EDITO
should I post what I submitted??? I kind of want to but I also kind of don't because what if I don't get in??? that's kind of a dumb reason  to not post so I guess I'll post. slash at this point I don't even care.

The Saltiest Genealogist

ít's me. I'm the saltiest human being to have ever undertaken the great task of genealogy. I am pretty much constantly leaving stupid and/or smart remarks on anything I do. But tonight, I recieved a message, that I recorded in this snapchat story. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll want to do genealogy too. sorry about the random stuff at the beginning (I tried to skip that but youtube is terrible) and also the aspect ratio.

All the things I should have said

wow wow wow doesn't that blog title just sound like it needs some angsty poetry following it??!?!?!??!??? well, I aint about that life. but I feel bad I did not post at all really last semester and there were definitely things I COULD HAVE posted about that curse me. Ok so here are some things I should have made blog posts about!!!!:

-how I live in the old MTC because it was the only housing I could find

-the time I hiked up timp and it was the worst ever and I had a panic attack on the summit and everyone with me decided that would be a good time to TAKE A NAP and leave me alone with my mental illness!!! word to the wise: don't hike with funteens.

-how I had my alarm clock set to 1:30 in the morning, but I thought it was set to 6:30 but I would always just turn it off and go to sleep but all my roommates who were still awake heard it and could not figure it out and then one night at roommate prayer they were like "have you guys heard the mysterious beeping noise?" and I had no idea and then when my alarm went off that night two of them burst into my room shouting "IT'S YOUR ALARM!!!!!" and I was so asleep I was just like "sorry" and went back to sleep and forgot it even happened until my roommate apologized to me the next night, hahahah what a good time.

-how Icelandic and spanish are apparently the same language in my head (like really, I try to speak spanish and icelandic comes out it's a problem when I'm in the spanish sunday school class, I cannot articulate)

-I drew a lot of stuff, I should have posted some of it. I guess I will right now, enjoy:

In other news for this semester, I have restarted my draw a day project, 52366! Additionally, for my icelandic class this semester we are doing a blog for part of our assignments! Here is mine!!! even if you don't speak Icelandic I'm sure it will be some kind of quality.

OLD ENGLISH

ok so... I really want to learn Old English, because I don’t have enough useless skills already. Also because I’ve heard it’s a lot like Iceland/Old Norse (one of my other useless skills) and so maybe I could bridge that gap and learn it. Anyway I was looking and there is an OE class offered at BYU but I’d have to take seven thousand prereq classes to get there (it’s a 500 level course so what am I really expecting) but I was just looking at they have their syllabus posted! With a BUNCH OF LINKS TO USEFUL OE RESOURCES. So I’m going to post them all here for future reference/study.
OLD ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION RESOURCES AND SAMPLES
EVERYTHING ELSE
practise recognizing cases (has exercises for Old Norse and some other ancient languages too!)
Dream of the Rood (this is like a poem but every word is hyperlinked to like a dictionary lower on the page idek)
There’s also this website the syllabus keeps linking to called Old English Aerobics but if you aren’t in a course it looks like you need to get special approval to register or something? I don’t really know what that’s about. So yeah you linguistics nerds enjoy!

please if you're the professor of this course and you stumble upon this don't hate me I just love old languages and being a nerd aaaaaa

ps I'm going to try to do weekly blog posts about my life now that I'm back in the glorious P but we'll see how far that goes lol

16.7.15

Ok but Provo can I just

recent discoveries!!!

  1. BYU is finally getting a shuttle system (finallllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyuhhhh when I was at the U the shuttle system was so great and helpful to me as a human being) which really opens up my housing options
  2. finding housing is hard when no one calls or emails back. thanks provo
  3. THIS I JUST FOUND:

So I am on the BYU popo site because I am looking into bike registration because I really just want to bike around instead of dealing with a car (that will be a post for another day) and they have a section on their police website where I guess they post all the calls they get??? IDK but this is just so great. I can't. Also can't wait to check out these great informational videos!!!!

UPDATE: read these ones!!! They are so great!!
why is this the campus police's problem?
this one is the best

actually you know what pretty much all of these are wonderful just read them yourselves

8.6.15

it's that time friends

my life:

yep kids that's right I have to stop being in return mission limbo and get my life together, namely, by signing up for classes next fall. I've never done a fall semester at the majestic Y so we'll see how this goes. This is stressing me out and I'm getting a headache so here we are. I don't even know how many classes I want to take but I'm sure it'll be fine. so far I'm signed up for figure drawing, Icelandic 101 and.... well the video up there is me trying to sign up for American Heritage so who knows if I'll be able to figure out how to take this class. IT'S JUST AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF WHAT IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME INFORMATION. alright yep maybe I'll take like one more class too

nonadult related life goals:
-rewatch all of Star Trek (at least TOS & TNG) and then read the TNG fashion blog
-reread all that Pacific Rim fanfic I couldn't get enough of before my mish
- draw a lot? wait that's an adult goal at this point in my life

30.5.15

Hi I'm back

missionary no longer

13.11.13

Goin on a mission leavin you wishin that you had a man

that's right kids, today I go to the MTC, truly the most proviest place ever. I can only imagine that it's all the bizarreness of Provo, compounded tenfold. Please check out these awesome pics my friend Chai took of me in my incredible halloween cosplay of Newt from Pacific Rim. Also I wrote a "novel" in 12 days. Other than mission stuff that has been my life.

And with that I bid you all adieu, and remember, when you think of potatoes, think of me. Let this song be your guide:

and in the immortal words of Indiana Jones, so long and thanks for all the fish!

My Provocative Daycation

yes that's right kids last week I went to Provo and as such, must memorialize it on this, my blog about provo.

I got up bright and early and drove down with my friend Emily who had to go to some conference on religious freedom. As we passed from the salt lake valley into happy valley the sun punched us in the eyes.

Anyway we go to provo and went our separate ways and went to the good old Wilk to grab some b-fast. Immediately I was strongly aware of what a weird place provo is.
In the time that I ate my breakfast, not only did Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears play, but I saw some guy say a prayer over his subway sandwich. Also shout out to the guy watching general conference in the fullscreen view.

Like the thing I forgot about Provo or that I didn't notice when I first moved down because I was worrying about getting moved in/dealing with my depressive episode was that Provo is just straight up bizarre. Being away in the real world for a few months and then going back just kind of threw it into sharp relief how strange everything is there. Like everything is just weird. I can't explain it. You'd have to go to provo yourself and check it out.
Anyway, after breakfast I met up with my friend Pine and we wandered all over tha place!! Another thing about provo is that because it's provo there's like not that much exciting to do, but like there's still a college campus so you find something. We all wish the bean museum were open so we could look at taxidermy animals, but I guess that'll just have to wait until I get back. So instead of that we went and checked out the ultra babby MUSEUM OF PEOPLES AND CULTURES. It's a building that's not even on campus. It's pretty cool though. We went and there were two exhibits: guatemalan/Mayan textiles and some cool latin american masks. The guatemalan part I was like "is this museum actually my house" because we have a bunch of huipils and those little dolls and what have you. Anyway we finished looking at that in like ten minutes. It's a tiny museum. but I recommend it! it's free!!

After that we went and met up with my friend Mike and we wandered around and then went to the HFAC and looked at weird art and seriously spent like 20 minutes looking at this one video...art??? (is that a thing) of like a mountain scene and there was a guy walking around in it but going way slowly like weeping angel status and it was out of control and we were mesmerized (I wish I could find it on the DVA site so you could look at it too but I cannot). After that Pine had to go to class and then Mike and I got some ice cream and he was brave and got the pumpkin kind and it tasted like PUMPKIN PIE HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE. and yet it was.

After that we get to the answer to the question posed in those two snapchats above. Why was I here? Why had I come to provo? The answer is that I had to talk to one of my animation professors how to function with my life. I totally psyched myself out as I do but then we talked and it was way chill and he gave me some good advice.

After that I went with Mike to a couple of his classes! We went to doctrine and covenants which was alright aND THEN WE WENT TO ART HISTORY AND IT WAS INCREDIBLE. oh my gosh I need to take an art history classes five years ago. and this post is so much text sorry friends next time I'll probably just post a million snapchats. SPOCK OUT

26.9.13

This is the greatest piece of art I have ever made.

1. don't you ever touch me again. 2. don't you ever touch me again.
shoutout to Poncho for coming up with this idea.
